A save in the final second from Niklas Landin gave Aalborg Håndbold their first win ever over might FC Barcelona in the Champions League when they won 36-35 in the Gigantium Arena in Aalborg.

In a high-scoring match Niklas Landin still ended up being the big hero for Aalborg in the Champions League clash against Barcelona on Wednesday evening.

The former national team goalkeeper saved a free throw after time expired and ensured that Aalborg held on to a final score of 36-35.

The Aalborg outfit were fired up from the start and never had trouble finding the net against Danish Barcelona keeper Emil who recently won the fourth successive Handball World Cup with Denmark. 

It was the first time that Aalborg won against Barcelona, ​​who have beaten the Danish team twice in the tournament final.

With three games left in the group stage, Aalborg is in second place in the Group B with 15 points. There trail the Catalonia leaders by two points, while Nantes are in third place with 13 points after a surprising defeat to Kolstad.

Six out of eight teams advance. Only the best two teams advance directly to the quarter-finals, while the others have to go through a playoff round.
