Aalborg Handball made up for a dreadful first half against RK Zagreb when they beat the bottom team in the Champions League 33-30 to keep their hopes of a direct entry into the quarter-finals of the tournament alive.

The first 30 minutes were poor, but Aalborg still managed to secure the expected win in their last home game in the Champions League group stage on Wednesday.

The Danes won 33-30 over bottom team RK Zagreb, who were fighting to stay alive in the tournament.

Thanks to the win the home side secured at least third spot in their group, and should they at least draw with French outfit Nantes in a weeks time, they will move into second place and thus gain a direct ticket to the quarter-finals.

The Croatian visitors were ahead 17-15 at the break partly thanks to the Croatian national team player Filip Glavas, who, even though he was injured from the start, turned into the leading scorer of the match.

Well supported by 5,500 spectators, Aalborg turned up the heat in the last 30 minutes after a much-needed break.

Thomas Arnoldsen was decisive for the comeback, but in general there was improvement all round the Danish side without it ever becoming an exuberant performance.
