Just two days after being knocked out of the cup quarterfinals by Bundesliga leaders SC Magdeburg (29-35), coach Ales Pajovic’s team initially struggled and trailed until the 23rd minute. After Emil Jakobsen converted a penalty, the favorites turned the game around and went into halftime with a two-goal lead.
In the second half, the hosts fought back to level the score at 22-22 (42nd minute) and kept the game close, repeatedly managing to equalize.
With eight minutes left, Victor Klöve put Göppingen back in front for the first time. The decisive moment came from Danish world champion Simon Pytlick, who scored with 22 seconds remaining. The leading goal scorers were the outstanding Jakobsen for Flensburg with 13 goals and Oskar Sunnefeldt for Göppingen (8).
