The Badminton World Federation (BWF) Independent Hearing Panel (IHP) has imposed a four-year suspension on all badminton related activity on Denmark’s Joachim Persson, who was previously coach of Anders Antonsen.

The IHP found that Persson had breached the BWF Code on the Prevention of the Manipulation of Competitions and the Judicial Procedures by betting on badminton and by failing to cooperate with the BWF’s investigation.

This is Persson’s second suspension. The decision was not appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Persson was sacked as coach of Anders Antonsen's when Antonsen happened to see Persson place a bet on a match taking place in the arena where they were located.

It is not clear which player contacted BWF, but it appears to be Anders Antonsen, who sacked Joachim Persson on 24 August 2024.

BWF also emphasizes that the bets were placed on a match in a tournament in which he himself participated, as he was Antonsen's coach at the time.
