19:25 CET - Manchester United hold on and secure a shock point on the road after a spirited performance which showcased what Ruben Amorim's Reds can do after a week of training. It's almost like a process takes time. And they deserved at least a point on the balance of play against a subpar Liverpool who drop two points to the relief of their title rivals.

It wasn't great defensively but some of the goals on offer were of the top draw and it was thrilling to watch a match between two sides going for the win.

19:12 CET - Amad has thrown a dagger into Liverpool's hearts once again and equalised for United! This game just keeps on giving and it is now 2-2!

It is brilliant play from substitute Alejandro Garnacho who responds to recent criticism with a fine low driven cross for Amad to slot home first time!

The little man for the big occasions strikes again.

18:22 CET - One key area of United's success in the first half came from United keeping Trent Alexander-Arnold busy defensively to nullify his attacking threat and the right-back has struggled so far up against Diogo Dalot.

18:15 CET - Half-time at Anfield and a fascinating half of football comes to a close goalless. Liverpool were on top in the early periods and should have found themselves ahead but Manchester United held firm and then grew into the game. Hoijlund should have given them the lead just before the break, a miss that he might rue at the end of this game.

18:13 CET - Manchester United are so close to taking the lead and they have! A lovely slide pass finds Rasmus Hojlund inside the box but the striker's effort is straight at Allison. Big chance missed.

18:09 CET - Liverpool keep finding space in midfield as United struggle to stick with the runners. The away side remain in this game though and the performance is a much improved one so far from recent dismal displays.

18:00 CET - Chances are coming at both ends but Liverpool remain the more likely. Ryan Gravenberch has just gone close this time but his effort from range just zips past the post. It remains 0-0 at Anfield.

17:46 CET - Huge save from Andre Onana who denies Alexis Mac Allister from point-blank range. Surely it is just a matter of time before Liverpool scores now?

17:45 CET - Liverpool are getting closer! A fine passing move ends with a chipped effort from Cody Gakpo from a tight angle and it bounces just wide of the post.

17:43 CET - The first big chance of the game comes the way of the home side! Trent Alexander-Arnold found himself in acres of space down the right wing but his initial strike was blocked before he set up Luis Diaz who blazed over over the bar.

17:40 CET - A good spell of possession for United who have settled into this game and growing in confidence. However, no clear cut chances of note so far.

17:35 CET - It is all Liverpool so far here which comes as no surprise but Manchester United have looked organised and full of energy so far. 0-0.

17:30 CET - It is time! On this cold January afternoon, Manchester United will need ice in their veins to get a result. Liverpool? They should walk this.

17:25 CET - The countdown to kick-off is on as the players walk out onto the pitch and the rendition of You'll Never Walk Alone is sung around Anfield. Goosebumps?

17:10 CET - Just 20 minutes until kick-off at a cold and white Anfield! And whilst Liverpool are huge favourites for the game this afternoon, they also have dominated this fixture in recent years having lost just one of the last five meetings.
