From local derbies to heavyweight cup ties, it’s time for another jam-packed weekend of football across Europe. As usual, keep up to date with all the latest news and results right here.

Sunday, January 12th

22:41 CET - Despite being without the departing Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Napoli eased to a 2-0 win over Verona to extend their lead at the top of Serie A back to four points.

Also finishing at the same time, French league leaders PSG stretched their lead at the summit of Ligue 1 to seven points after a 2-1 victory over Saint-Etienne.

22:05 CET - Well, what an amazing evening for Barcelona, who are the Spanish Super Cup champions! Hansi Flick's men demolished Real Madrid 5-2 in scintillating fashion to lift the trophy and inflict a second humiliating defeat on their rivals this season.

Wojciech Szczesny was sent off for Barca in the second half in the middle of goals from Raphinha and Rodrygo, and despite playing over 30 minutes with 10 men, Barca were able to hold on relatively comfortably.

A big win for Barca but a devastating defeat for Madrid.

20:57 CET - What an utterly breathtaking half of football from Barcelona as they lead arch-rivals Real Madrid 4-1 in the Spanish Super Cup final!

Madrid had taken an early lead courtesy of Kylian Mbappe against the run of play, but goals from Lamine Yamal, Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha and Alejandro Balde turned the game on its head. Barca have been exquisite and Madrid are staring down the barrel of another humiliating defeat after losing 4-0 to the same opponents earlier this season.

18:55 CET - Manchester United are through after edging a tense penalty shoot-out 5-4 after five perfect spot kicks. A big win for Ruben Amorim after a challenging start to life in England and his side showed impressive character with 10-men. As for Mikel Arteta, he must be on thin ice now as Arsenal go crashing out of the FA Cup.

18:41 CET - Penalties it is! Manchester United actually had the better chances in extra-time but neither side could find the winning goal.

18:24 CET - It is half-time in extra-time and despite their best attempts, Arsenal have still been unable to find the all-important goal. One way traffic though.

18:10 CET - Over to LaLiga and Atletico Madrid are now top of the league as the title race heats up in Spain. Diego Simeone's side held on to a 1-0 win against Osasuna after a Julian Alvarez goal early in the second half.

18:00 CET - We head to an extra 30 minutes at the Emirates after an FA Cup classic ends 1-1. After a goal from each side, Altay Bayindir became the hero for the visitors for the remainder of the game.

First the Turkish keeper got down quickly to deny Martin Odegaard from the spot before making another couple of huge saves to keep his sides hopes alive.

Amongst all the chaos Diogo Dalot was seen a second yellow for United who have a big task in extra-time to stay in this.

17:43 CET - Next up in Serie A sees Bologna host Roma in around 15 minutes. Roma have looked vastly improved since Claudio Ranieri came in, summed up by their shock Rome derby win last weekend.

17:17 CET - Manchester United are ahead against the run of play! A speedy counter is finished off by Bruno Fernandes with ruthless efficiency as the United captain shows incredible composure. Garnacho sped away down the right wing before squaring it for Ferandes and despite a bobbling ball, the Portuguese curled an effort into the top corner brilliantly.

17:07 CET - We are back underway at the Emirates! Big half ahead both sides and their respective seasons.

16:57 CET - Inter Milan have held on to secure a crucial 1-0 win against Venezia and move to within a point of Napoli with a game in hand at the top of Serie A.
