Round 5 of the Eredivisie is well underway, and Saturday's games promised a wide variety of shock and awe, with some massive matchups on the schedule.

Ajax - PSV: 1-3

PSV dealt Ajax an early, sensitive blow in the Eredivisie title race, beating them 3-1 in an intense and chippy game in Amsterdam.

NEC - Feyenoord: 1-3

Feyenoord rushed out of the gates in the second half to beat NEC 3-1 in an up-and-down contest.

FC Utrecht - Go Ahead Eagles: 1-3 (Abandoned)

The match between FC Utrecht and Go Ahead Eagles was abandoned after 65 minutes when FC Utrecht fans persistently protested the club's woeful results.

Mathis Suray gave the Eagles the lead with a fabulous goal from distance in the first half, after which red-hot Soren Tengstedt and Victor Edvardsen gave the visitors a 3-0 lead. Utrecht fans shook the game up by throwing fireworks onto the pitch, even throwing a bomb close to Eagles goalkeeper Kjetil Haug.

After a 20-minute suspension and a quick FC Utrecht goal, the game was suspended again when FC Utrecht fans threw plastic cups onto the pitch in large numbers. A second suspension meant permanent abandonment.

The match, abandoned in the 65th minute, will resume behind closed doors on Monday or Tuesday.

Willem II - Excelsior: 0-3

Excelsior's excellent start to the new Eredivisie season continued in Tilburg, where Willem II were confidently beaten 3-0.

David Garden helped Excelsior to a fast start by scoring the opener after 8 minutes, while Rick Meissen doubled the lead in the 34th minute. Star midfielder Irakli Yegoian put the game to bed in the final ten minutes, firing the ball past Maxime Delanghe at his near post.
