Eredivisie roundup: FC Groningen dominate, Ajax and Feyenoord waste leads

Ajax followed Feyenoord's example and wasted a 2-0 lead against Heerenveen to drop points for the first time this season.

ADO Den Haag - FC Groningen: 1-4

ADO Den Haag continued their early-season struggles after winning the Keuken Kampioen Divisie title in May, losing 4-1 to red-hot FC Groningen to kick off the Sunday slate of Eredivisie games.

FC Groningen got going early when Thom van Bergen fired the ball in Nikiema's far corner just minutes after Brynjolfur Willumsson missed a wide-open header. The Icelandic striker got his goal 15 minutes later, after which David van der Werff completed Groningen's first-half hat-trick in the second minute of added time.

A smart goal from Yannick Eduardo made the ADO faithful believe, but the home crowd were silenced once again when Nils Eggens scored with his first touch of the match in the 81st minute.

The 4-1 loss kept ADO pointless after two rounds, while FC Groningen remained perfect after their 2-1 win over FC Utrecht last week.

FC Twente - PEC Zwolle: 3-1

FC Twente had a near-perfect preparation for their UEFA Conference League play-off match against Qarabag on Thursday, beating PEC Zwolle 3-1.

Twente went down early after extremely poor play in the defence earned Eilas Sorensen a massive chance that left goalkeeper Lars Unnerstall with no chance. That's when Twente woke up, however - Daouda Weidmann levelled the score before half-time to give the hosts some direction.

It was PEC winger Dylan Mbayo who gave Twente the lead after an hour, putting a low cross from Daan Rots into his own top corner ten minutes before Rots himself put the final score on the board.
