The Detroit Tigers acquired relief pitcher Rafael Montero from the Atlanta Braves in a trade on Wednesday.

In return, the Braves received minor league infielder Jim Jarvis as part of the trade.

Montero has been having a rough season so far, posting a 5.40 earned run average in 39 games. The 34-year-old has given up 23 earned runs on 30 hits in 38.1 innings of work, while recording 39 strikeouts and 23 walks. However, opponents are hitting .211 off of Montero this season, which is the lowest since 2022 (.193).

Montero is under contract for the rest of the year before becoming an unrestricted free agent following the season's end.

Jarvis is slashing .242/.316/.336 with two home runs, 29 RBI, and eight stolen bases through 77 games in Double-A this season. The 24-year-old might not pop on the stat sheet, but he's a young work-in-progress prospect that was exchanged for a veteran reliever at the end of his career.
