524 international wickets meant nothing of substance to teenage Indian opener Vaibhav Sooryavanshi as he smashed Australian captain Pat Cummins all around the MY Singh Stadium in New Chandigarh on the way to a massive IPL eliminator victory.

Sooryavanshi struck 30 runs off eight balls bowled by the Aussie captain overnight, including three sixes and a four in the space of four legal deliveries.

A juicy stumps-bound half-volley during the third over of the innings, where only two fielders are allowed outside the 30-yard fielding circle, was slammed through straight mid-off for four before another was lifted over straight mid-on with the full face of the bat and some of the imperious timing Sooryavanshi is quickly becoming known for.

The stocky teenager also carries immense core power and displayed it across the following two deliveries, when slashing a wide bouncer up and over third man for a second consecutive six and then muscling a back of a length slower ball over Cummins' head with open shoulders and a horizontal blade.

Cummins went for figures of 0-64, his worst IPL bowling figures in 80 games.

As part of his 12 sixes from just 29 balls faced, Sooryavanshi eclipsed Chris Gayle's world record of most sixes in a single IPL tournament, with his 65 forming the base of his tournament-best 680 runs at a barely believable scoring rate of 14.57 runs per over.

But that was not the only Chris Gayle record the youngster had his eye on overnight.

Sooryavanshi, who recently declared Gayle's T20 record of 175 is in his sights when telling Kevin Pietersen a T20 double century is one of his career goals, was on track to beat Gayle's record of fastest IPL century (30 balls).

He went for broke on his 29th ball faced, attacking a wide bouncer, only to lose his transfer of weight when stretching out to be caught at third man on 97.

Sooravanshi was declared Player of the Match as his Rajasthan Royals posted 243/8 in a 47-run win. They will face Gujarat Titans for a place in the final against defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru, featuring Josh Hazlewood and Tim David.
