The UEFA Conference League saw quite a bit of drama on Thursday as the qualifying rounds came to a close.

In the Champions Path, history was made in Latvia, as Hamrun Spartans managed a 2-2 draw with hosts RFS to prevail 3-2 across the two legs. It took the visitors 12 minutes to double their advantage through Serigne Thioune. Five minutes later, the deficit was back down to one through Stefan Panic's penalty.

Hamrun did not back down and found another goal midway through the second half as Vincenzo Polito scored his first goal in qualifying round action. Despite Darko Lemajic's late goal, RFS could not grab a necessary third goal on the night to force extra time.

The result meant that Hamrun became the first club from Malta to make the group phase of a major UEFA club competition.

Also in the Champions Path, Noah finished off Olimpija Ljubljana with a 3-2 home win, completing a 7-3 aggregate success. They are back in the main rounds for the second year in a row.

Shelbourne came out on top in the battle of Ireland once more, beating Linfield 2-0 away. That, coupled with their 3-1 home result last week, sent them through. It was the second time this summer the pair met in Europe, and once more, the League of Ireland outfit prevailed.

It was a similar story for Kosovo's Drita, who topped Differdange 03 thanks to a Bensik Kransiqi penalty shortly past the hour. They made their maiden group phase showing after a 3-1 aggregate success, knocking their Luxembourg-based opponents out for the second time this summer.

Breidablik are back in the UECL proper after getting the better of Virtus 3-1 in San Marino. The hosts went down to 10 men during the first half, ultimately sealing their fate. Their historic run in Europe - the farthest a club from the microstate has ever gone - is complete.

Turkish sides falter as 'Big Five' clubs move through

Two of the biggest upsets in the round involved the Turkish Super Lig sides. Besiktas fell first, as they were defeated 1-0 at home to Switzerland's Lausanne-Sport. Nathan Butler-Oyedeji scored the winner just before the break.

Felix Oduokhai was given his marching orders less than a minute into the second half as the hosts failed to find a goal of their own, losing 2-1 on aggregate.

Matters got worse for Turkiye, as Istanbul Basaksehir were beaten for the second week in a row by Romania's CS Universitatea Craiova. Despite going down seven minutes in, the hosts recovered, retaking the aggregate lead two minutes later.

Two more goals completed the result for CSU Craiova, who won 3-1 on the night and 5-2 overall. They will make their group phase bow as a result.

Elsewhere, Crystal Palace played to a 0-0 draw in Norway versus Fredrikstad. That was enough for the Eagles to advance courtesy of their 1-0 success last time out. Rayo Vallecano were comfortable winners, getting past Belarusian side Neman Grodno 4-0 on the night and 5-0 over the two legs.

Strasbourg's Emanuel Emegha netted twice for his side in their 3-2 defeat of Brondby in the Danish capital. That was also the final aggregate score, allowing the Ligue 1 club to advance. Mainz also recovered from a disappointing first leg, beating Rosenborg 4-1 in their return leg, and 5-3 across the two legs.

Fiorentina were made to sweat in their clash against Zhytomyr. After winning the first leg 3-0, La Viola found themselves down 2-0 inside the opening 15 minutes. It took them a while to get going, but in the end, they overturned the deficit in the second half, prevailing 3-2 over the Ukrainians, and 6-2 overall.

Elsewhere, Legia Warsaw were involved in a dramatic clash versus Hibernian. After taking the lead 13 minutes in, the Scottish side responded with three goals in 11 second half minutes to lead the tie.

Jurgen Elitim played the hero in stoppage time though, scoring to force extra time. Mileta Rajovic got the winner for the Poles as they ended up 5-4 aggregate winners despite the 3-3 draw after 120 minutes.

Omonia Nicosia forced penalties versus Wolfsberger after playing a man down for the final half hour of normal time, plus all of extra time. Having scored the goal to tie things up in the first half, the Cypriots went on to win 5-4 in the shootout.

AEK Athens defeated Anderlecht 2-0 at home to complete a 3-1 aggregate success. They will partake in the competition's main round for the first time. As for Shamrock Rovers, they held off Santa Clara in a 0-0 draw in Dublin, making it through 2-1 overall.

Shakhtar Donetsk needed a goal from Kaua Elias in the 113th minute to find their way past Servette 2-1 on the road. Over the two legs, the Ukrainians prevailed 3-2.

Also progressing from the UECL playoff round were Sparta Praha, Rapid Wien, AZ Alkmaar, Hacken, Rakow, Celje, and Jagiellonia. They will be joined in Friday's league phase draw alongside the 12 losing teams from the Europa League playoff round. The event, which will occur in Monaco, takes place immediately after the UEL's draw.
