The Boston Bruins signed centre Morgan Geekie (26) to a six-year contract extension on Sunday worth $33 million.

Geekie's deal will have an average annual value of $5.5 million. A key piece returning to Boston who was set to be a restricted free agent come July 1st.

The six-year veteran put up career-high numbers for the Bruins this past season - scoring 33 goals and putting up 24 assists while averaging 16:55 ice time.

Geekie was the fifth pick in the third round of the 2017 NHL Draft, spending his first two seasons in the NHL as a member of the Carolina Hurricanes organization.

However, Geekie was selected by the Seattle Kraken as part of the expansion draft, where he would also spend two years - scoring just 16 goals in 142 games.

Seattle eventually let Geekie hit the free agent market after not extending him a qualifying offer, leaving him to sign with the Bruins for a two-year deal worth $4 million.

Now, after those two years were up, Geekie can say all the hard work paid off as he will now be a centerpiece for the Bruins moving forward.
