Since losing talisman Omar Marmoush, Dino Toppmöller’s Frankfurt have failed to win (D2, L1), and the visitors struggled in the early moments of the first half as Mönchengladbach dominated. Florian Neuhaus was proving the dangerman for the home side, as he let fly from distance but his shot flew inches wide.
The Gladbach man continued to probe and after the Eagles failed to clear a set-piece, his whipped cross into the box was nodded home by Tim Kleindienst to break the deadlock.
That goal seemed to finally wake the visitors up and they responded by equalising just five minutes. Following a scramble in the box, Hugo Larsson’s effort from the edge of the area was tipped onto the bar, but Hugo Ekitike was on hand to slam home the leveller. The Frenchman ought to have given the visitors the lead going into the break, but after Ansgar Knauff whipped the ball across goal, Ekitike poked the ball against the woodwork.

Frankfurt picked up right where they left off following the restart, with Gladbach mostly on the back foot, yet failed to make their dominance count.
First, Can Uzun saw his shot brilliantly saved by Moritz Nicolas, before the Turkish youngster fired agonisingly wide of the post minutes later. Uzun was involved in multiple incidents going forward for the Eagles, but also in the middle of the park, as he was shown a yellow card for a high challenge.
The home side began to grow into the contest in the later stages, but Kevin Trapp was untroubled, allowing the visitors to pick up a point away from home.
With neither side able to find the elusive second goal the spoils were shared to keep Frankfurt in the top-three, seven points behind Bayer Leverkusen in second.
Mönchengladbach remain in contention for a European spot themselves, but missed the chance to move into the top-six by failing to see out victory.
