Boston Red Sox ace Garrett Crochet threw a complete-game shutout against the divisional rival Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday.

Crochet finished the outing with nine strikeouts while not allowing a single walk and just three hits en route to a 1-0 win.

The American League Cy Young Award candidate lowered his earned run average for the season to 2.23, tied with Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal for the fourth-best in all of baseball.

Crochet now leads the league with 160 strikeouts this year in his 129.1 innings pitched. In 20 starts, he now boasts a 10-4 record, becoming the seventh pitcher this season to reach the 10-win mark.

The now two-time All-Star signed a six-year, $170 million contract extension with the Red Sox after the team acquired him in a trade with the Chicago White Sox before the season started.

Crochet spent four seasons pitching for the White Sox before ultimately being dealt for catcher Kyle Teel, outfielder Braden Montgomery, infielder Chase Meidroth, and pitcher Wikelman Gonzalez.

Boston has now won four straight series, jumping to 52-45 on the season, as they currently sit in third place in the American League East division - 6.5 games behind the Blue Jays.
