The Pittsburgh Pirates and hometown fan-favourite Andrew McCutchen (38) have agreed on a one-year, $5 million deal, pending a physical, per team beat writer Alex Stumpf.

McCutchen is heading back to the Steel City on a new one-year deal that'll mark his 12th season with the team.

The former 2016 NL MVP slashed .232/.328/.411/.739 with 20 home runs and 50 RBI for the Pirates last season. Now, the 5x All-Star is looking to run it back once more with his team. McCutchen even posted his reaction to the news on social media.

McCutchen is a 4x Silver Slugger, won his lone Gold Glove in 2011, and even earned the Roberto Clemente Award (sportsmanship) in 2015, making him one of the greatest players in Pirates history.

The 16-year veteran outfielder has a career slash line of .273/.367/.462/.829 with 2,152 hits, 319 home runs, and 1,095 RBI in 9,156 plate appearances.

After the 2017 season, McCutchen spent the following year with the San Francisco Giants and New York Yankees before heading to the Philadelphia Phillies for the next three seasons. Then he spent 2022 with the Milwaukee Brewers before heading back home to Pittsburgh in 2023.
