The Kansas City Royals agreed on a one-year, $7 million deal with right-handed pitcher Michael Lorenzen (33) agreed on Monday.

The new deal includes an option for a second year worth $12 million and other incentives that can earn Lorenzen an extra $1 million, according to MLB insider Ken Rosenthal. Lorenzen will earn a base salary of $5.5 million with a $1.5 million buyout on the option.

Lorenzen was dealt from the Rangers to the Royals at the trade deadline this past season and pitched a 3.31 ERA in 26 games. In seven appearances for the Royals, the righty threw a whopping 1.57 ERA in 28.2 innings.

Now the 10-year veteran and 2023 All-Star can bolster a Royals rotation that's looking to make a bounce back next year as title contenders out of the American League following an 86-76 season.

Smaller sample size aside, Lornezen's 1.081 WHIP with the Royals last season was the lowest of his career since his second season (1.080) in the league with the Cincinnati Reds back in 2016.
