The Baltimore Orioles acquired infielder Luis Vazquez (25) from the Chicago Cubs on Friday in exchange for cash considerations, according to both teams.
Emmanuel Rivera (28) was designated for assignment to make room for Vazquez on the 40-man roster.
Vazquez was 1-12 hitting after debuting for the Cubs last season but slashed a solid .263/.347/.432/.779 in Triple-A with eight home runs and 24 RBI. In 2023, between Double-A and Triple-A, Vazquez hit 20 home runs with 80 RBI and a .271 batting average, which the Orioles are hoping to see out him potentially down the road.
Vazquez was originally drafted by the Cubs in the 14th round of the 2017 MLB Draft out of Puerto Rico. But his rookie status is still intact for the 2025 season after playing just 11 games for Chicago last year.
