Athletics starting pitcher Gunnar Hoglund and Arizona Diamondbacks closer Justin Martinez will both miss the rest of the 2025 season due to injuries.

Hoglund will undergo surgery on his right hip after he was recently placed on the 15-day injured list on June 2nd. The team later described the surgery for Hoglund as "hip labral repair and cartilage debridement."

The 25-year-old rookie was having a rough go at it this season, posting a 6.40 earned run average (ERA) while giving up 38 hits and 11 walks in 32.1 innings. He posted an opponent batting average of .299 and struck out 23.

But the rookie got the win in his first-ever start earlier this season.

The Diamondbacks will be without their right-handed closer in Martinez for the year after he left Monday's game against the Seattle Mariners.

After facing three batters, Martinez called out the trainers to the mound before eventually leaving.

He landed on the 15-day IL the following day before ultimately being diagnosed with a sprained UCL that ended his season - the second time in his career after having Tommy John surgery in 2021.

The 23-year-old Dominican native recorded five saves on six opportunities this season, posting a 4.11 ERA in 17 total relief appearances.

He now joins a brutal list of injured D'Backs, including starting pitcher Corbin Burnes (out for the year), Jordan Montgomery (out for the year), Blake Walston (out for the year), and A.J. Puk (60-day IL).

Other players on the D'Backs with no set date to return include Cristian Mena (shoulder), Kendall Graveman (hip), and Cristian Montes De Oca (elbow).
