South Africa have lined up a friendly international against Egypt in Cairo on October 4, an old foe against whom they have enjoyed good success in the past.

Bafana Bafana will already be in Egypt for their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Eritrea, who will use the neutral venue to host their September 30 encounter.

Four days earlier, returning coach Pitso Mosimane will begin his third spell with the national team when they play Guinea at home on September 26. The South African Football Association has not yet revealed the venue for that fixture.

All three matches form part of the new elongated FIFA international window, which was designed to allow teams to play up to four games should they wish.

South Africa have met Egypt on 15 previous occasions, with Bafana recording eight wins to five for the Pharaohs, with just two draws.

The most recent of those meetings was at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, when the North Africans triumphed 1-0 in a game in which they finished with 10 men and had to withstand heavy Bafana pressure.

It was some revenge for South Africa famously knocking them out of their own tournament in 2019, when Thembinkosi Lorch’s late goal secured a 1-0 success in the round of 16 clash.
