Victor Lai proved to be too big an obstacle for Rasmus Gemke on Friday evening as the Dane, after an otherwise monumental effort, crashed out of the Denmark Open against the Canadian superstar as he lost in three sets 21-19, 16-21, 14-21.

It wasn't to be for Rasmus Gemke, who at one point looked like he might pull off an upset when he held the lead by four points in the second set against Canada's Victor Lai.

However, after a long tournament Gemke ran short of energy at the end of the second set as Victor Lai took over the initiative and never looked back as he won 19-21, 21-16, 21-14.

The Canadian rising star will face Alex Lanier in a blockbuster semi-final. Gemke can take heart from the fact that he played an impressive tournament, notably managing to knock out the World No. 1, Kunlavut Vitidsarn in the first round.
