Sanders started the first preseason game for the Browns, impressing everyone after throwing for 138 yards and two touchdowns while completing 14 of 23 pass attempts.
The team recently signed quarterback Taylor Huntley, who saw some game time last week, completing six of eight passes for 51 yards and a touchdown.
Reigning Super Bowl MVP quarterback Jalen Hurts talked to Sanders during the Browns-Eagles joint practice on Wednesday before carting off Sanders himself.
"We had a very lengthy conversation," said Hurts in the press conference after practice. "I gave him my perspective on what I see and how I've gone about things. Ultimately, saying that it takes a great deal of patience and hard work - a sense of resilience. I'm supporting him from where I am and wish him nothing but the best with his opportunities."
Cleveland's rookie is fighting in a tough crowd for the starting spot now with Huntley in the mix. Sanders is also looking to win the role over fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel, veteran Kenny Pickett, and former Super Bowl MVP Joe Flacco, who won the 2023 Comeback Player of the Year with the Browns after leading them to a playoff birth with an 11-6 record.
Sanders slipped to the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft this season after the team originally took Gabriel in the third round.
