The move came after the Demon Deacons were led to a second straight 4-8, failing to make a bowl.
Clawson has been the Wake Forest head coach since 2014 and left behind an all-time 99-101 record, 5-5 in bowl games.
When Clawson first came to Wake Forest, he brought the program success. In his first seven years, the Demon Deacons won five of the seven bowl games they played in and even reached a top-10 national ranking in both the 2021 and 2022 seasons.
He was also crowned the 2021 ACC Coach of the Year and remains the only coach to win at least 10 games at four different Division 1 schools.
Some of the notable names in the NFL that played under Clawson include Atlanta Falcons Pro Bowl safety Jessie Bates III and Seattle Seahawks standout running back Kenneth Walker III.
