Michigan quarterback Alex Orji (21) is entering the transfer portal and will be looking to take his athleticism elsewhere with two seasons of eligibility remaining.

The now former Wolverines quarterback is on his way out as the number one prospect and expected starter next season, Bryce Underwood, will be taking his place.

Orji had a rough season for a Wolverines team that leaned mightily on the run, passing for fewer yards (140) than he ran (260). The dual-threat quarterback saw the endzone only four times this past season (three passing, one rushing) and completed 52.3 percent of his passing with just one interception on 44 passing attempts.

Orji lost the starting quarterback job to David Warren after just a few games and rarely saw the field afterward. After spending three seasons with Michigan, and was one who many thought would be the definitive starter after J.J. McCarthy departed for the NFL, Orji is now on the move to find a place where he can thrive.

The Wolverines were 2-1 with Orji under center, beating USC and Minnesota in back-to-back weeks before losing to Washington, which third string Jack Tuttle came in to take over for Orji. His 29-yard run in the victory over Ohio State recently was longer than any play by a Buckeyes player that day.
