Ghana’s U15 girls’ team, the Black Damsels, made history after clinching the 2025 CAF African Schools Football Championship (ASFC) title with a commanding 2-0 victory over Uganda at the University of Ghana Stadium.

The triumph capped a flawless campaign for the hosts, who dominated the tournament from start to finish, while the U15 boys’ team secured a hard-fought third-place finish.

In their maiden appearance at the competition, the Black Damsels displayed remarkable composure and skill, going unbeaten throughout the tournament. After topping Group A with wins over Morocco (1-0), Benin (2-0), and Malawi (3-0), they edged defending champions South Africa 3-2 in a thrilling semi-final.

The final saw Belinda Kpentey and Daniella Abass emerge as heroes. Kpentey broke the deadlock in the second half after a dazzling solo run by Christiana Ashiaku, who beat three defenders before setting up the opener. Abass sealed the win with a clinical finish, showcasing the attacking prowess that defined Ghana’s campaign.

As champions, Ghana’s girls received a $300,000 cash prize, while Uganda took home $200,000 as runners-up.

Ghana’s U15 boys’ team, coached by Kwaku Danso, mirrored the girls’ fighting spirit. After a narrow semi-final exit at the expense of Tanzania, they rallied to defeat Uganda 2-1 in a thrilling third-place playoff. Trailing 1-0 at halftime, the team staged a dramatic second-half comeback, with substitutes playing pivotal roles.

The boys’ journey included a strong group stage performance, beating Uganda 2-0, South Africa 1-0 and Algeria 3-0. Their semi-final loss set up the playoff clash, where they demonstrated grit to secure third place and a $150,000 prize.

The CAF African Schools Football Championship was hosted by Ghana for the first time with games being played at the University of Ghana Stadium. It is the third edition of the competition as CAF seeks to revamp youth football on the continent.
