In a shocking update this afternoon, The Athletic is reporting that Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior has told Real Madrid he will not sign a new contract as long as his relationship with head coach Xabi Alonso remains strained.

With Vini Jr's contract running out in 2027, talks over a new contract have now stalled due to the Brazilian's strained relationship with Real Madrid's new boss Alonso, according to The Athletic's reporter Mario Cortegana.

Xabi Alonso was hired in the summer and has overseen an encouraging start to the season, but relations with one of his star players appear to be at a breaking point.

The Athletic have reported that three different sources told them that Vinicius brought up the matter in a private conversation with the club President, Florentino Perez, last month.
