On Sunday afternoon, Holger Rune had the chance to send the Danish tennis national team among the eight best nations in the world.
But the Dane missed a match point along the way, and it ended with a defeat in three sets after a dramatic marathon match lasting more than three hours.
Despite being the favorite, Rune lost to Pedro Martinez, who thus made it 2-2 overall in the Davis Cup match against Denmark.
The Spaniard, who is ranked 67 in the world, won 6-1, 4-6, 7-6 over World No 11 Holger Rune, on the clay in Marbella.
Earlier on Sunday, the Danish double also missed the opportunity to decide the match against Spain, who are without Carlos Alcaraz in the tie.
Thus, the match between Spain and Denmark must be decided in a fifth and final match, where Elmer Moller will line up in singles against Pablo Carreño Busta.
