But the Danish hosts only had to wait 13 minutes to take the lead when Mille Gejl cleverly let Pernille Harder's cross pass on to Sofie Bredgaard, who opened the score with a flat finish into the net.
Six minutes later, the Danes doubled the lead when Gejl headed the ball down at the feet of Amalie Vangsgaard, who coolly put the ball in behind the Serbian keeper with a low, stinging drive.
Five minutes before the interval, Serbia reduced the deficit when the ball was not properly cleared after keeper Freja Thisgaard otherwise had pulled a huge save out of her sleeve, but a totally unmarked Sara Stokic scored from close range after a cross.
The Serbian goal caused nervousness to creep into the Danish outfit in the second half, but the Danish hosts were saved when they were awarded a dubious penalty, which Pernille Harder converted to secure the three points.
