Mbokazi was an unused substitute as he was rested in a game Fire always looked likely to win against the bottom-placed side in the Western Conference.
Fire remain in third place in the Eastern Conference, five points behind leaders Nashville SC.
Dithejane played the first hour, having come off the bench three times for Fire since his move from TS Galaxy at the start of the year.
It is the first time this season that Mbokazi has not started for Fire, having already earned himself cult status at the club.
Meanwhile, Bradley Carnell’s Philadelphia Union slumped to the bottom of the Eastern Conference as they fell 2-0 away to the Columbus Crew on Saturday.
“We had a lot of hope coming into the game, but two errors led to two goals, and that was pretty much the game,” said Carnell, who had Olwethu Makhanya in central defence.
Philadelphia finished top of the regular-season standings last season but have won once in 10 MLS games this campaign.
Bongokuhle Hlongwane started for Minnesota United, but they lost 1-0 at home to Los Angeles FC, also on Saturday.
