Paris Saint-Germain sealed their place in the UEFA Champions League (UCL) knockout play-offs with a commanding 4-1 triumph at Stuttgart, who fell short of qualification on the final matchday by a single point.

Fresh off one of the comebacks of the season - overturning a two-goal deficit to stun Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City 4-2 - PSG wasted no time asserting their dominance over Stuttgart.

Les Parisiens broke the deadlock inside six minutes as Bradley Barcola pounced on Desire Doue’s corner at the far post, netting his side’s fastest goal of this UCL campaign.

Gianluigi Donnarumma then produced a fantastic point-blank save to deny Chris uührich before Barcola turned provider, setting up Ousmane Dembele for a simple tap-in on the counter as PSG doubled their lead.

Moments later, Fabian Bredlow kept Stuttgart in the contest with a goalline stop to deny Doue, but he had no answer when Dembele rifled a sensational strike into the top left corner after picking up Joao Neves’ pass, leaving the hosts trailing by three before half-time.

Sebastian Hoenel’s men emerged from the dressing room with intent, but their efforts bore little fruit as Dembele soon put the game beyond the Swabians' reach, completing his hat-trick with a sublime first-time strike into the top corner after a slick one-two with Achraf Hakimi.

The contest was therefore all but over, though Stuttgart showed fight to net a consolation late on through Fuhrich, who directed Maximilian Mittelstadt’s inch-perfect cross into the bottom right corner - denying PSG a clean sheet for the sixth successive match across all competitions.

A comeback was never a realistic possibility though, with the defeat seeing Stuttgart bow out of the UCL with 10 points from eight games. Les Parisiens claimed victory in the first-ever competitive H2H between the sides, extending their unbeaten streak to 13 games across all competitions with the triumph having last tasted defeat to Bayern Munich in late November.
