Liverpool are reportedly ready to keep Arne Slot's financial compensation in place as the former manager could take up the Netherlands job, Dutch sources report.

Slot was fired from his Liverpool job in June following a disappointing 2025-26 season, in which Liverpool qualified for the UEFA Champions League by the skin of their teeth.

Following the resignation of Ronald Koeman as Netherlands manager, Arne Slot quickly became a popular potential successor and was added to the KNVB's shortlist soon after Koeman's exit, according to Sky Sports' Florian Plettenberg.

A potential obstacle to Slot's appointment was the money Liverpool still owed him from his salary. The Dutchman penned a three-year contract on Merseyside in 2024 and earned £8 million in his first year, but got a raise after winning the Premier League title in his first year in charge.

In total, Slot's contract was worth around £25 million, and the club have guaranteed Slot that he will not forfeit his Liverpool wages if he takes up the Netherlands job, as per De Telegraaf.

Moving on to international football rather than managing another club - Fulham were interested but rejected by Slot - satisfies both parties, rewarding Slot's good relationship with the Liverpool hierarchy despite his early dismissal.

Liverpool's leniency avoids the situation Manchester United created after Louis van Gaal's dismissal in 2016. Van Gaal refused to take up another job in club football for the remainder of his original Manchester United deal to earn the full £10 million of his settlement.
