Tappara were the only side to record regulation-time victories in their opening three fixtures since the Liiga season began 10 days ago, seeing off Lukko before recording back-to-back victories over the two sides to contest last season's Liiga Finals - KalPa and SaiPa.
Beaten 5-3 at home on Saturday, KalPa travelled to Tampere with revenge in mind and took the lead 26 seconds in through Jaakko Rissanen, but were then blown away by the home side, who went ahead courtesy of Aapeli Rasanen and Joachim Blichfeld strikes midway through the opening period.
Blichfeld added his second goal seven minutes into the second period, before Eetu Tuulola made it 4-1 jut before the 40-minute mark.
Rasanen continued the onslaught early in the third, then Henrik Haapala and Tuulola made it a rout before Blichfeld completed his hat-trick in the final two minutes to make the final score 8-1.
It's 12 points from a possible 12 for the Battle Axe, while KalPa have picked up five points from their two games against clubs other than Tappara, as they sit 10th at this early stage.
Only one other Liiga club has four wins from four so far - TPS Turku's 3-1 win over Pelicans on Wednesday put them atop the standings until tonight, but needing overtime to beat Hameenlinna in their first match means they trail Tappara by a point.
Kiekko-Espoo sit third after they cruised to a 7-3 win this evening over JYP to reach 10 points, though they have played a game more than the two sides above them, and two more than fourth-placed Assat, who won their first two matches before suffering a loss to the Espoo side.
The Aces are one of six sides sitting on six points, including JYP. Pelicans are also on six after they were beaten in overtime tonight, 3-2 by Tampere's other side, Ilves, who secured their first two points of the season but remain bottom of the standings.
Vaasan Sport also joined the six-point club this evening by putting six past KooKoo, who responded with two goals of their own. Lukko matched Sport in impressive style, putting six unanswered goals past Hameenlinna to record successive wins after back-to-back defeats.
Karpat have made a good start to the season with two victories from their first three matches, while SaiPa sit a place below KalPa in 11th. It's one win apiece so far for Jukurit, IFK Helsinki and KooKoo, who find themselves outside the all-important top 12 but above early strugglers Ilves.
