After a long review from both the refs and the situation room, the replay showed that the puck barely crossed the line under Edmonton goaltender Tristan Jarry's skate, granting Poehling his third goal of the series.
Anaheim is now one win away from advancing to the second round of the playoffs for the first time since 2017.
The series will now head back to Edmonton for Game 5 on April 28th.
Recap & Highlights
The Oilers wasted no time getting ahead in Game 4, putting up two goals in the first six minutes of action.
Kasperi Kapanen needed just 38 seconds to get things started with his fourth goal of the series off of Jake Walman's fourth assist and Jason Dickinson's first.
It was the second-fastest opening goal on the road in Oilers playoff history, the fastest being Fernando Pisani when he scored 16 seconds into Game 5 of the 2006 Stanley Cup Final.
Five minutes later, the Oilers went on the game's first power play, and they extended their lead without much trouble.
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored his second of the playoffs, with assists from Evan Bouchard (2) and Connor McDavid (2) to make it a 2-0 game.
It marked a point for both Nugent-Hopkins and McDavid in their 100th career playoff game. The last Oilers player to reach that milestone was Esa Tikkanen in 1992.
Anaheim had a perfect opportunity to cut the lead in half after going on their first power play of the game near the end of the first period, but couldn't capitalize on the opportunity.
Heading into Game 4, the Ducks were a stellar 4-for-8 on the power play in the series.
Despite their lone power play of the first, on top of outshooting Edmonton 13-9 and outhitting them 17-10, they were still down by two after one.
But that wouldn't last long as the Ducks got things started in the second.
Following a Josh Samanski tripping penalty, Anaheim's Cutter Gauthier scored his third goal of the playoffs, second on the power play, to cut the lead to 2-1.
Jackson LaCombe (ANA) became the fourth defenseman in NHL history to record a point in each of his four games, while also becoming the third defenseman with six or more assists through his first four games.
Zach Hyman got called for a minor kneeing penalty that left the Ducks on another power play as they had improved to 5-for-10 on the series after Gauthier's goal.
And the Ducks' power play would continue to prove to be the best in the playoffs as they improved to 6-for-11.
Mikael Granlund scored his second goal of the series with Leo Carlsson and John Carlson both picking up their third assist to make it 2-2 with under two minutes to go in the second.
Within the first 1:20 of the third period, Edmonton's Walman would pick up a minor interference penalty, leaving Anaheim's killer power play with a chance to take the lead.
But after it failed, Edmonton would go on a power play right afterwards, and they would be the ones to take advantage.
Evan Bouchard scored his first goal of the playoffs with assists from McDavid (3) and Leon Draisaitl (6), his first point of the night, to make it 3-2.
McDavid became the third-fastest player in NHL postseason history to record 50 multi-point games (100 games), the others being Wayne Gretzky (77 games) and Mario Lemieux (99 games).
Bouchard reached his 27th multi-point playoff game, tying Chris Pronger for the 10th-most by a defenseman all-time and sitting one spot behind Victor Hedman (28), who is the only active defenseman with more.
Then, almost exactly 10 minutes later, the Anaheim crowd erupted.
Jeffrey Viel scored his second goal of the game with 6:29 left to go in the third as the game was tied up 3-3.
Carlson (4) picked up his second assist of the game, as did LaCombe (7).
McDavid would drive down the ice and give the Oilers a chance to take the lead with under five minutes to go, but Ducks goaltender Lukas Dostal would make the save of the game not once but twice in his first career overtime playoff game.
Both attempts were from the same exact side in the same exact style from McDavid.
Dostal's clutch saves would be enough as the Ducks would hold on to send the game to overtime, where the Ducks took home Game 4.
