All you need to know about the 2026 Badminton World Championships in New Delhi

Badminton's biggest prize will be on the line in New Delhi, as the 30th edition of the BWF World Championships will get underway from 17-23 August. Flashscore provides you with all the necessary details before the tournament gets underway on Monday.

Date: 17-23 August

Venue: Indira Gandhi Stadium

The Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi is India's largest indoor sports arena and seats 14,349 people. Opened in 1982 for the Asian Games, it hosts major indoor sports, concerts, and political events. The arena recently underwent a massive revamp to fix infrastructural and animal-disruption issues that plagued the venue earlier in the year. It features upgraded flooring, brand-new court lighting installed by international experts, refurbished restrooms, and strict double-door entry/anti-bird defenses. 

Prize Money:

While there is no prize money awarded at the World Championships, it offers the maximum ranking boost alongside the Olympic Games—14,500 BWF ranking points for the champions.

Men's Singles: Shi Yuqi (CHN)

Women's singles: Akane Yamaguchi (JPN)

Men's Doubles: Kim Won-ho & Seo Seung-jae (KOR)

Women's Doubles: Liu Sheng Shu & Tan Ning (CHN)

Mixed Doubles: Chen Tang Jie & Toh Ee Wei (MYS)

Tournament format: 

The competition will begin with the opening rounds before progressing through the knockout stages.  The schedule includes the Round of 64, Round of 48, Round of 32 and Round of 16, followed by the quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals. The approved draft schedule has the opening stages spread across August 17 and 18. The Round of 32 is scheduled for August 19, followed by the Round of 16 on August 20. The quarter-finals will be played on August 21, semi-finals on August 22, and all five finals are scheduled for August 23.
